Until 20 years ago crossover SUV segment almost didn’t exist. We could find some vehicles whose characteristics were similar. However, these were big, heavy, slow, not so fuel-friendly, and finally expensive. Who needs such vehicle?

Nevertheless, since we stepped into the third millennium, a new segment in automotive industry started its raise. The growth doesn’t stop and now we have numerous classes in the crossover segment. Buyers can choose sizes, equipment, purpose, of their SUVs. Compared to its ancestors, everything is better. Compared to vehicles in other segments, crossovers are close to their main advantages, or even better.

First of all, SUVs are probably the safest vehicles on road. With this segment, you get a comfort of a sedan. Only high-performance cars can top the specs of crossovers. However, SUVs are keeping an excellent gas mileage. Some of them can take up to seven or eight passengers, which leads to discontinuation of minivan category. Finally, the price is not so high anymore, and for extra cash, buyers can get a lot more.

During this period we could see different models. Some are already legendary, while some are not in production anymore. Few crossovers are relatively new, but its popularity jumped immediately. Now, we will try to make a list of top ten crossovers for next season.

#7 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

Modifications of the drive system will make 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid one of the most interesting models. The first thing coming on our mind when we speak about these kinds of drivetrains is better gas mileage. But, the 2019 RAV4 Hybrid is going to improve other specs too. For example, the conventional 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit is capable to create 175 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. With an electric motor, the same unit delivers 200 hp and 215 lb-ft of torque. The new Bronco will definitely steal the show in 2019. However, it is just a premiere, while production of this model starts in 2020. Sorry Bronco, there is no room on our list for you this time. But, there is another Ford’s star here. Expedition, as a full-size vehicle is one of the most expensive models in our countdown. However, the popularity of the SUV is what brings it here. #3 2019 Subaru Forester

It is strange to see Subaru ranking so high. It is also weird because the crossover is offering only one engine and transmission. Subaru decided to cut a 2.0-liter engine due to poor sales. It leaves its 2.5-liter Boxer as the only solution to the CVT auto gearbox. Tuning will add 12 horses compared to the model for 2018. More updates are waiting in the cockpit. We are going to find new equipment and extra room in the cargo area. Safety is very important since the 2019 Subaru Forester is going to be used for an off-road drive. And its AWD system is another thing we should pay attention to.

#2 2019 Audi Q5

After VW’s scandal with CO2 emissions fake reports, all German carmakers are somehow quiet. However, fans know what to expect from BMW, Mercedes, and Audi. The next season will bring a redesign of the Q5 crossover. But, we are interested more in changes in the engine room. While buyers in the US are not expecting to see a diesel, 2019 Audi Q5 could surprise everyone with it. However, it is not likely to happen, and the SUV will stick to its 2.0-l TFSI petrol powertrain.

So, why is this vehicle in our #2 spot? Audi is always looking forward. Germans are leaders in innovations, and so it is with Audi Q5. In 2019 we will see the first e-tron edition of the SUV. It is not going to be a totally electric vehicle, but a hybrid that boosts overall output for 110 hp. Confirmation from Peter Mertens, head of development segment in Audi is making all fans wait for Q5 eagerly.
