The French carmaker Renault plans to hybridize its three bestsellers – Clio, Megane, and Captur crossover. The goal is reducing emissions of harmful gases. New hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains are in development. As Renault states, they are using the knowledge of their team in Formula 1. Crossover, as the most popular among these three, will appear next year as Renault Captur 2020.
Company’s chief, Carlos Gonn, told that the new plug-in hybrid drive will be named e-Tech. However, we will see this crossover late in 2019. Captur is the most important vehicle since it records the best sales in its homeland. However, the 2020 Renault Capture will now definitely be more attractive on other markets because of the new platform, hybrid drivetrain, and autonomous drive. With such upgrades, we can’t wait to see the new crossover in salons.
New Platform for 2020 Renault Captur
The second generation of the crossover will use the new CMF/B platform. This architecture is developed by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. That promises a modern concept with lower weight and more rigidity. We can also expect new dimensions of the Renault Captur 2020. This new generation will be larger, by adding 10 cm (3.9 inches). The French dealerships of this brand already teased fans with images of the new Captur 2020.
According to these and reports from other sources, the aesthetics of the crossover will change considerably. In addition to the new “hooked” design of headlights, the new 2020 Renault Captur will show its particular curvilinear silhouette for a much more aggressive appearance.
Interior and Technology
Inside we will find Renault Captur 2020 more spacious. In addition to more room in the cabin and the trunk thanks to the longer wheelbase, there will be also new and more attractive materials, such as soft plastics in the upper area of the dashboard.
Technology is also getting upgrades. The most noteworthy innovation is the incorporation of level 2 driving assistance systems – autonomous drive. Traffic jam attendant is capable of operating in situations of heavy traffic at very low speed. In addition to this, we will also find adaptive cruise control and parking assistance. On the other hand, the new infotainment and entertaining systems will have two touchscreen displays. Connected Cloud Alliance that offers up to 35 online services, is part of the new Renault Captur 2020.
Hybrid Specs
Renault says that ordinary hybrid drives will use two electric motors. One will be used to drive exclusively to electricity, while others will serve to provide extra power when overtaking at higher speeds. Both electric motors will be attached to a single transmission unit, and Renault announces that this powertrain will debut in the Clio 2020 model. Shortly after, we will see the same system on the Renault Captur 2020.
Renault Captur 2020 PHEV
Regarding the plug-in system, the French brand revealed it will use a 1.6-liter petrol engine as the base. They chose this one because of its longevity. The electric motor will add the necessary force to the overturns. Such a propulsion system is coming for 2020 Renault Captur and 2020 Megane. The French company claims that both models will be able to go about 50 kilometers (31 miles) using only electricity. That is possible thanks to a 9.8 kWh battery which will take a position under the floor.
Renault Captur 2020 Specs – Diesel and Petrol Engines
Regarding the mechanical section, Renault Captur 2020 will still use diesel and gasoline engines. Well, the French carmaker is delivering fewer diesel units recently. Buyers are only going to find the 1.5 Blue dCi powertrain. This engine can produce either 95 hp and 115 hp. In the gasoline section, we find a new three-cylinder 1.0-liter engine as the base unit. This one delivers 100 hp. There is also an old option a 1.3 TCe powertrain. Like the diesel, this unit also has two power levels – 130 hp and 150 hp.
