The new engine for the 2020 Nissan Qashqai is here. One of the best-selling European crossovers introduced a 1.3-liter unit. However, that is just one of the many drivetrain options the vehicle is going to offer to its buyers. Well, Nissan is a part of a big alliance with Mitsubishi and Renault. These companies are helping each other, so we could see the Qashqai either with some other new engine, or the 1.3-liter unit could find its way for other models in the family.
Besides this petrol powertrain, the 2020 Nissan Qashqai will introduce an all-new system for the next season. That will be hybrid. Nissan Rogue Sport, its US sibling doesn’t offer such configuration. Now, it is not a surprise anymore that European and Chinese markets are getting hybrid models before the United States.

The rest of the engine lineup is the same. The 2020 Qashqai offers few more options for their buyers around the world. In most regions that is a 1.6-liter inline-four. This unit is capable to produce 160 hp and needs 10 seconds for 0-60 mph. Qashqai will use the same engine as its US sibling. A 2.0 motor can produce 150 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. In some markets, the crossover will be available with a manual gearbox. Besides on the new unit, a seven-speed transmission is optional only for a 2.0-liter displacement.
The 2020 Nissan Qashqai will continue to use diesel engines as well. A 1.5-liter is the most famous unit you will find under the hood of Renault’s compact vehicles. This time, it is turbocharged. Such configuration is capable to produce 110 hp and 190 lb-ft. However, Nissan will offer another option here. The slightly larger 1.6-liter engine delivers 20 horsepower and 40 pound-feet more. Also, it offers a 4×4 drive for off-road adventurers.

The hybrid engine is still a mystery. The company confirmed it, but there are no further details about the 2020 Nissan Qashqai Hybrid. When it will come? Where? How much it will cost? And what kind of engine it will use? No answer to all these questions. Well, Nissan is playing a game. But, they can’t wait for too much longer. Some of the main rivals are already on the market with their hybrid crossovers. Toyota Rav4 is available in Europe, and it will soon join the US lineup. The same is with Honda CR-V.
We believe that either 1.6 or 2.0 engines could be the base drivetrains for a hybrid setup. This is a more environmental-friendly system. Besides that, Qashqai Hybrid would add some numbers to its output and fuel economy numbers.
Minor Cosmetic Updates
The upcoming crossover is not going to change too much on the existing model. Qashqai was redesigned for 2019. So, now the company is listening to feedbacks and waits to hear the pros and cons. Definitely, the ride quality and practicality are advantages you will get with the new edition. On the other hand, first impressions say that legroom is a bit tight at rear seats. Well, this is a compact crossover, so we can’t expect a level of comfort of a larger SUV. Also, Nissan could improve safety, especially rear visibility. The more attractive design is eye-catching, but sometimes safety pays the price.
2020 Nissan Qashqai Release Date and Price
The 2020 Nissan Qashqai is not going out in next year or so. The new model is still fresh. The Japanese company will give it some time to prove itself. The price of the crossover will depend on the market. For example, it costs 20,000 euros in Europe and 25,000 AUD in Australia. Hybrid setup will add at least $2,000. Of course, a larger engine will also increase the price and the crossover will offer top trims above 30,000 euros.
