2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE Spy Shots, Plug-in Hybrid

The forthcoming 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE is a midsize luxury SUV that comes as a 2-row/5-passenger model. Firstly introduced as the M-Class, the name is changed to a GLE a few years ago, and now a lot of models that carries GLE nameplate can be found on the car market. The first spy shots appear on the internet and the new model is camouflaged all over the body.

German automaker’s new model will compete with BMW X5 and Lexus RX. The company is also offering a plug-in hybrid model. Hybrid will bring sufficiency, and AMG GLE model will bring power. There is also a 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe model that is more of a sports car. There is a change in front and rear of the SUV, while the side of a body will remain the same. A couple of new engines will be offered, and the interior is upgraded.

The front fascia now comes with a long vent below the grille and with an air dam below that. The corner air inlets are moved more outside and in the middle, a new grille is added with the Mercedes badge in the middle of it. However, the new headlight units are there as well. The hood will now feature two lines on each side. At the back, the taillights of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE suffered significant changes.

There is a new LED layout with more rounded units. Basically, it is the same styling as an outgoing model with some softened tweaks. Furthermore, plenty of exterior packages are available, with Night Package as the most popular choice. It offers AMG styling and a lot of gloss-black accents.

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will remain a 2-row/5-passenger SUV, and there are no signs of changing that in the near future, so the third row is unlikely at the moment. But this isn’t a bad thing as GLE comes with more legroom than its competitors, and cargo capacity is better too. There are a 38.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and when the seats are folded flat space is increased to an 80.3 cubic feet. The visibility up front is great with front seats are slightly higher than before.

As per spy photos, the new model will get a new instrument cluster. The wide infotainment display is in the middle of the dash and is surrounded by circular HVAC vents. The interior comes with leather and soft-touch materials, and standard technology features are made to the latest standards.

2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 and GLE 350 4MATIC

The all-new 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will run on a single engine option, and it is a 3.5-liter V6 that returns 305 HP and 275 lb-ft of torque. The rear-wheel drive system is standard, but all-wheel drive is optional. GLE is using a 7-speed automatic transmission and the fuel economy is 18 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Top speed of this model is 135 mph.

In order to compete with its biggest rivals, Mercedes made a plug-in hybrid option. The electric motor and a 3.0-liter drivetrain combined can burst 440 HP and 480 lb-ft of torque. Furthermore, the electric motor comes with a lithium-ion battery and can travel for 10 miles on sole electricity.

The battery takes a couple of hours to recharge, and you can even charge it by the gas engine during the drive. However, the fuel economy for this one in the city/highway is 38/50 MPGe gas + electric.

2019 Mercedes-AMG GLE43 4MATIC and GLE63 4MATIC models

The highlights of the company offers are two models AMG-tuned GLE43 4MATIC and GLE63 4MATIC. The AMG software in this two models will deliver great performance with high efficiency. The first one GLE43 4MATIC model will get 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo that will make 363 HP. Furthermore, it comes with the nine-speed automatic transmission.

With the 17/23 mpg in the city/highway, it will provide similar fuel economy like model GLE 350. We must add that this model will be able to run from 0 to 60 mph in 5,3 sec.

The other one comes with much more powerful. Under the hood, there is the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that delivers 550 HP. However, in the S trim this model will give 27 more Hp or total output 577 HP. Furthermore, this SUV with the S trim will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3,8 sec.

It comes with the seven-speed automatic transmission. Both models will have a standard all-wheel drive system.

Price, Rivals and Release Date

The approaching 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will start at $55,000. The midsize-luxury GLE 550e SUV offers a plug-in hybrid that cost around $67,500. However, the models GLE43 4MATIC and GLE63 start at around $72.000.

Comparing prices with its competitors, 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE is slightly cheaper than BMW X5, but above other rivals like Lexus RX, Lincoln MKX, Cadillac XT6 and Acura MDX. The release date is yet unknown, but Mercedes should provide information very soon.
