RX is the flagship model in Lexus. Everything starts and ends with it. Bigger or smaller SUVs are looking at the popularity of its sibling and benefit from it. So, it is not a surprise why the company prepares 2020 Lexus RX 350 redesign. Well, the SUV is still new and it is not ready for the next generation. The mid-cycle refresh will introduce some changes we can expect from future models, especially GX and LX, where major changes are about to arrive in the next couple of seasons. Crossovers from the smaller segment, NX, and UX, are recently updated.
So, what kinds of changes we can expect from the 2020 Lexus RX 350? First of all, the exterior. It might be relatively new, but the design needs often updates. For more attractive appearance and functional purpose, the outer lines will take some changes. Interior as well. While the layout remains the same, the dashboard and control panel are going to present new features. One of them should be the new infotainment system. Finally, buyers will be able to choose petrol or hybrid drivetrain. The speed of evolution of electric motors is causing changes with every new model. The new RX will need more miles and power for the 450h version.
2020 Lexus RX 350 Release Date
The new 2020 Lexus RX 350 will come out soon after we step into 2019. However, the company will present the new styling, but the arrival of the SUV is planned for the last quarter of next year. In 2020 the RX will come with all current versions, including extended L model, F Sport, and hybrid 450h.
2020 Lexus RX 350 Changes
The number of modifications for the new 2020 Lexus RX 350 will be modest. Designers have a task to modernize the SUV and to make it more aerodynamic. That means the exterior will keep the same dimensions as its predecessor. But, few new lines on the hood, roof, and side skirts will refresh the appearance. The company is using more aluminum for body parts, causing the weight to drop.
Upgrading the Enform Infotainment System
Lexus receives a lot of negative feedback for its infotainment system. So, the main goal for the new 2020 Lexus RX 350 is to improve Enform platform. This crossover SUV is a leader in innovations, in its family and in some other segments of the automotive industry. Easier to use concept and more features are the main thing designers have to do. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto could draw attention and navigation and other extra services can make the reputation of the new Enform much better.
The 2020 Lexus RX 350 will be 192 inches long. But, if you are looking for the extended vehicle, the SUV offers the special RX 350l model. It adds 4.5 inches to its body, but the wheelbase length remains the same 110 in. Width and height are the same both for the 2020 Lexus RX 350l and the base model. The SUV is 74 inches wide and 68 in high.
2020 Lexus RX 350l
The same changes for the 2020 Lexus RX 350 we will see on the “L” version. Well, these two models have the most things in common. But besides the length and benefits, these few inches are bringing, there are few accessories which we won’t find on the other one. For example, for the current lineup, these are climate control for the rear row and sunshades for the window. Of course, the 2020 Lexus RX 350l have extra row and seating capacity for seven persons. With the third bench folded, there is more space for cargo. Finally, the fuel consumption is higher, although the RX 350l crates 5 hp less from the same engine.
2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport
Top of the line and the most popular model is 2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport. It remains so in the next season. However, we still don’t know exact updates for this vehicle. But, be sure that F Sport is bringing special drivetrain setup. Also, there is sportier interior with heating and ventilating options for seats and many more upgrades.
2020 Lexus RX 350 Drivetrain Specs
The 2020 Lexus RX 350 will stick to a 3.5-liter V-6 engine across the entire lineup. Standard, long, hybrid, and extender hybrid models are using it. However, for each of them, the versatile V-6 unit delivers a different amount of power. For the base RX 350, it can make 295 hp. A longer version gets 5 ponies less. Electric motors improve the power output on hybrid models to 308 hp. Torque on the base and RX 350l SUV is 267 lb-ft. This engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The F Sport model adds paddle shifters. Buyers will choose between front-and all-wheel drive.
Driving 2020 Lexus RX 350
The extra length of the 2018 Lexus RX 350l model will cause slightly stiffer drive through curves and turns. Besides that, the engine is very silent and smooth. For the 2018 Lexus RX 350 F Sport model the setup is providing an even smoother ride. Hybrid 450h version adds even more excitement, especially for drivers who never controlled such vehicle.
The most economical of all 2020 Lexus RX models are hybrids. The 450h can return 31/28 mpg by using an AWD. Its extended 450hL version is larger and heavier, and of course, consumes more fuel. It drops city rating to 29 mpg. Tuning of the drivetrain system on the RX 350 will result in slightly better mileage. The standard version is going to achieve 24 mpg combined with FWD and 23 mpg with all-wheel drive. That is a 1 mile per gallon boost compared to its predecessors. The RX 350l model drops all rates for 1 mpg and returns 20/27 in FWD and 19/26 in AWD drive.
2020 Lexus RX 350 Price
The 2020 Lexus RX 350 will start at $48,000. It is becoming one of the most expensive mid-size luxury SUVs. But, it is worth that money. The “L” version with 7-seat layout adds around $4,000 to the base cost, and F Sport will carry a price tag of at least $55k. If you want to purchase a hybrid, it is going to cost as much as RX 350 F Sport, while the same version of RX 450h in 2020 is going to start above $60,000.
