After six years, the second series of the crossover will be in the books. The 2020 Kia Soul will start the third generation of the compact model.
With the arrival of the current version in 2014, the growth of the Soul crossover started. Also, two Korean companies, Kia and Hyundai, made a strong alliance to compete with US, European and Japanese carmakers. 2020 Kia Soul Redesign Changes and Spy Shots
The first spy shots of the upcoming 2020 Kia Soul are available. The crossover will be completely redesigned. At least on these images, it seems so. The front fascia is under big reconstruction. The heavy camouflage cannot hide the new shape of headlights. These are narrower. Some experts claim the company will go after the unibrow design. Also, some rumors are saying that Kia is going to drop the trademark feature – the Tiger Nose. Fans won’t be happy to hear that. To make it up to all enthusiasts, the carmaker will have to pull out something special from the sleeve. Besides visible changes in spy photos and rumors about the 2020 Soul redesign, there is nothing else available at this moment. At least not for the front end.
The rear of the 2020 Kia Soul prototype also unveils a few interesting changes. We can spot the exhaust tip mounted right at the center of the bumper. It was not the case previously. The EV version is not going to need it though. Also, the new Soul looks higher than its predecessor. Is it only for tests or the production model is getting more ground clearance, we will find out when the crossover for 2020 season debuts next year.
2020 Kia Soul Interior
There will be two versions of the 2020 Kia Soul interior. One is for the standard model, and the other for EV car. The second one is packed with unique equipment and monitors of the entire drive system. Also, futuristic design of the dashboard and autonomous drive are new for 2020 Kia Soul EV.
Nevertheless, a conventional cabin is also going to suffer some updates. The new generation brings new features and accessories, that is certain. 2020 Kia Soul EV Updates and Range
Current Soul crossover is probably better known for its all-electric model. This subcompact vehicle comes with a greener version that consumes power from the electric battery. It is capable to produce 110 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. The range currently offers 111 miles between recharges.
The new 2020 Kia Soul EV is going to boost all these outputs. Power and torque are not so important. But, more ponies and twist power will make this 2020 Soul electric vehicle quicker. At the same time, a bigger battery is going to increase the range of the crossover. Do not be surprised if the new Soul achieves 200 and more miles. Engineers are also working on faster charging. The new stations will fill batteries in less than 3 hours. For example, the fast-charging system now needs over five hours. With standard 120V outlet, Soul needs 33 hours to recharge. This time is also going to drop, probably to 15-20 hours.
2020 Kia Soul Specs and Turbo
The new 2020 Kia Soul is going to introduce the new drivetrain lineup for the upcoming season. Nevertheless, the company will keep the base 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine as the standard offer. On the other hand, the turbocharged version of the same powertrain is questionable. The new Soul crossover is definitely keeping the Turbo model in its offer, but with the new drivetrain. What it could be, we still don’t know. It is also possible to see again a 1.6-liter with turbochargers.
On the other hand, the 2020 Kia Soul Turbo could upgrade a 2.0-liter optional engine for the current model. Instead of it as the second choice, engineers could develop some stronger unit, for example, 2.5-l. All in all, the upcoming Soul Turbo is about to deliver more power and torque.
2020 Kia Soul Hybrid
Last, but not the least mode could be a 2020 Kia Soul Hybrid. This can be a surprise for the next season. Experts are kind of shocked with these rumors since there is no point of downgrading an EV. Also, with an all-electric model in the offer, a hybrid version can’t draw too much attention. But, this kind of crossover is a bridge between EV and conventional unit.
2020 Kia Soul Release Date, Price
The 2020 Kia Soul is going to arrive during 2019. Nevertheless, the crossover is not going to salons immediately, since the Korean carmaker will give it some time for final touches. Besides that, we won’t probably see all versions at once. With so many changes on the electric and possibly Turbo model, Kia could launch one by one version. Of course, the standard unit comes first, and then the others.
The price will start again from around $17,000 for the base crossover. The carmaker keeps it competitive and attractive by keeping the same price as before. On the other hand, the electric model now starts at $35,000. However, the next EV could be much cheaper. With the development of the new technology, we could see it under $30,000.
