The upcoming 2019 Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover that offers a roomy interior, more intuitive infotainment system, and numerous engine options. The aesthetics have been revamped, with few interior changes and adding more safety equipment. The list of safety features is long, and Ford is claiming that their new Edge offers the most standard driver assist features in its segment.
There are two new option packages available. The SEL Sport Appearance package adds darker look with gray 19-inch aluminum wheels, grille, skid plates and mirror caps. This package adds more black-accented headlamps and gray cloth seating. There is also a Safe and Smart package that offers adaptive cruise control-forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic headlamps and much more. Moreover, Blue Metallic and Lightning Blue are new exterior colors.
2019 Ford Edge Redesign and Colors
Speaking of 2019 Ford Edge design changes, there are a few of them. The front grille looks more upright and the headlights are reshaped and are using LED system. Accent lighting and fog lights are also LED. At the back, the license plate now comes with the handle for the power-lift tailgate. Taillights suffered the most, from small dimensions they went to a larger and bolder design. The rear bumper is restyled and the skid plate comes with dual exhaust tips.
The rest of body design will remain the same, and if you want more innovations, choose one of two new packages that are mentioned above. The new model will be available in 10 colors: Ruby Red, Lighting Blue, Deep Impact Blue Metallic, Ingot Silver, Burgundy Velvet, Magnetic, Oxford White, Shadow Black, White Gold and White Platinum.
2019 Ford Edge Interior
While the interior of 2019 Ford Edge is almost the same, there are few updates were made. The shift leveler is replaced with a new rotary shift knob, the same knob is used in 2018 Ford Expedition. The knob is smaller than previous shift levels so some extra space is made for cup holders and a coin tray at the bottom. Below the HVAC controls that are placed in hidden storage, you can find a wireless phone charger and two USB ports. The new FordPass system allows the Wi-Fi hotspot to connect with up to 10 devices.
With this system, the owner can access the vehicle via smartphone. Furthermore, FordPass allows operating the door locks, starting it up and even locating the vehicle. The infotainment system is still Ford’s Sync 3, but it now comes with Amazon Alexa integration. Ford+Alexa is now the name of the software and it works like a standard personal assistant, so the user can use voice controls. That means the driver can manage navigation, media content, radio or calendar entries. The Titanium trims will be available with three interior colors Ceramic, Cognac and Ebony. However, the SE and SEL will get also three colors Dune, Ebony and Mayan Gray/Umber. The Sport version will be only available in Black one.
Trim Options
The new 2019 Ford Edge comes with four trims SE, SEL, Titanium and Sport. With the base, one SE one can get the high-tech turbocharged engine. However, this trims also include a rearview camera, keyless entry, push-button start, rear safety belts, cloth seats, 18-inch wheels and 6-way-manual driver’s configuration. As for the infotainment, this trims will offers AM/FM/CD system,Sync system with 6-speaker and also USB input and Bluetooth connectivity.
However, if you go with SEL trim you must add another $3,000 to get features like dual-zone climate control, EasyFold remote rear-seat. Also, this trim comes with power driver and passenger seats, reverse-parking aid, satellite radio and all-wheel drive system. With some options, you can add a navigation system, a forward-facing camera, forward-collision and lane-keeping warning systems, blind-spot monitoring inflatable and parking-assist system.
2019 Ford Edge ST and Titanium Models
These two trims are high-end. With this trims the new 2019 Ford Edge will get a better look and aggressive styling. Both trims will offer Ford’s adaptive steering system. This system will be in charge of response based on speed. The hands-free liftgate feature, heated/ventilated front seats and also heated steering wheel, rear-seat entertainment system and panoramic roof will be there.
As for the safety, it will be offered with (ESC) system or Electronic Stability Control, Roll Stability Control (RSC), Side Impact Beams, Rear Parking Sensors, Low Tire Pressure Warning, Airbag Occupancy Sensor, Passenger and driver Knee Airbag, Low Fuel Warning, Back-Up Camera and much more.
2019 Ford Edge Powertrain System
The 2019 Ford Edge will be coming with few engines. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost powertrain comes with 250 HP and 275 pound-feet of torque. Furthermore, Ford made some promises that the new engine will be more fuel efficient than ever before. This engine will be available only in trims SE, SEL and Titanium. If you opt for Edge sport model, you will get a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that makes up to 315 HP.
The last one comes with SEL, Titanium trims. The 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 280 horsepower @ 6,500 rpm. All engines are using eight-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive system is optional. This model is capable to accelerate from 0 to 60 in 7,6 sec with the limited top speed of 122 mph.
2019 Ford Edge Fuel Economy
The first model with an engine that is in SE, SEL, Titanium trims will give very decent fuel economy. It comes with EPA city/highway fuel economy of 20/30 mpg for the FWD system. However, this same engine with auto start/stop and FWD system get 21/30 mpg. All-wheel drive system will give 20/28 mpg.
The second one engine or sport comes with EPA city/highway fuel economy of 17/24 mpg (AWD). This trims will be only available with AWD system. The last one SEL and Titanium trims get 18/26 mpg (FWD) and 17/25 mpg (AWD).
