2021 Chevy Trailblazer is Now a Crossover (7-Seater?)

The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer is coming back as the compact crossover. The company is not sharing too many details, but the most important one is the official statement that the vehicle is arriving. Also, GM announced that the RS version takes the top position. Well, there won’t be Trailblazer SS right at the launch. But, in the future, who knows?

Rumors about the comeback swirled for a while. Fans and enthusiasts could find too many reports. The initial rumor started from a reliable source, we would say so. Well, the confirmation came this year to confirm the speculations. However, now we are digging deeper in search of the new clues.

The company didn’t mention what is under the bonnet. The position in the compact segment, between Trax and Equinox, could give us lead. A four-cylinder unit is certain. And what about the RS model? Some kind of a turbo drivetrain will be the source of power here. In case the SS variant appears, the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer could become one of the most powerful compact crossovers in the market.

Short History

Trailblazer is the crossover SUV that initially appeared as a version of a well-known Blazer. Back in 1999, this was a high-end trim level, that turned into the independent lineup in just two years. The first generation appeared in 2001 and lasted until 2009. The company decided to discontinue the Trailblazer in North America after that. Investments in its development would be too expensive, and Traverse replaced the existing SUV.

Whatsoever, the vehicle continued its production in some other countries. The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer is not coming back to Pacific Asia, Brazil, China… it never left. So, the upcoming vehicle starts the third generation. Of course, models for the USA and other markets will have a lot of differences. However, we are glad to see the Trailblazer back.

2021 Chevy Trailblazer Dimensions

The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer will be a compact crossover, smaller than Equinox, but larger than Trax. After Nissan Rogue Sport, this is another vehicle in this sub-class. Well, the crossover is going to be significantly smaller than the last time. In the final year of production, the Trailblazer was 192 inches long. The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer length will be around 175 inches. That is right between the sizes of its siblings. Nissan Rogue Sport is 172 inches long.

The company announced only the comeback of the Trailblazer. But, its predecessors were offering some cool updates. The SS model was definitely the most exciting. On the other hand, the SUV had an extended EXT version with a three-row layout. GM still offers Cadillac Escalade with such package. On the other hand, the compact crossover with seven seats is not too strange to see anymore, with the VW Tiguan available with such upgrade.

2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer SS

The company announced the RS trim. But, it can’t be compared to the SS package, which is currently available only for the Chevy Camaro pony car. We can hear rumors about other vehicles, Silverado truck, or Tahoe SUV. But, it seems like the new Blazer could be the next SuperSport model by GM. In this case, we have a reason to believe in 2021 Chevy Trailblazer SS.

Back in 2006, this tuning included unique exterior and interior upgrades. These made Trailblazer SS look aggressive and sharp. But, the main change happened under the hood. There, the SUV got a 6.0-l V8 engine to deliver a monster output. Now, the compact crossover can’t have such large displacement. But, a high-output turbo-four or six could get the job done.

Engine and Specs

It seems the drivetrain for the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer is definitely a turbocharged four-cylinder unit. There are three different possibilities. The subcompact Trax is using a 1.4-liter powertrain capable to produce 140 hp. Just for the comparison, Nissan Rogue Sport is delivering 141 hp.

On the other hand, GM could go with a 170-hp rated 1.5-liter turbo model, also available for Equinox. The fuel economy is not taking too big damage, but the power gets a significant boost. Finally, the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer RS will probably come out with a 2.0-liter displacement. The turbo unit crunches out 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Max speed, acceleration, and driving impression are getting the boost alongside the power increase.

2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer Price

Another info the company saves for the release date. This shouldn’t be too hard to guess. By being positioned between two other models, the cost is going to be higher than for the Trax and cheaper than the one you pay for Equinox. So, the price of the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer will start at $23,000-23,500. The RS model will cost closer to $30,000 and the SS could eventually top this for a significant amount of money.

When will 2021 Chevy Trailblazer be Available?

Enthusiasts must be patient. GM plans a raid to the crossover/SUV market in 2021. Full-size models (Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon) are also heading for the new generation. So, the company will have to organize a proper debuts, which means different release dates and shows to host these events. The Trailblazer will probably arrive in the second part of 2020.
