The release date of the new 2021 Chevy Suburban is the biggest mystery about this SUV. Besides the debut time, we know mostly everything about the upcoming vehicle. Thanks to the spy photos, the first thing fans could notice is the independent rear suspension. Also, we know the vehicle is heading to the new generation after a delay. Initially, this was supposed to happen in 2020. There are still some small tuning to be done before the full-size model is out.
Furthermore, we could see the new drivetrain. The GM is thinking of a diesel unit. The Duramax V6 is already available for the Silverado truck. Finally, the new trim level is also on the way. We could see Suburban’s smaller sibling, Chevrolet Tahoe with High Country package. A tiny little detail unveiled this package. We hope the bigger brother will also get the same treatment.
V8 Engines
General Motors will keep the current lineup of engines for the upcoming 2021 Chevy Suburban. A 5.3-liter V8 is the base setup. The engine is capable of producing 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission could be replaced. This info is still missing. That will affect a better fuel economy and probably towing capacity. The 2021 Suburban will be capable to haul at least 6,500 pounds with a 5.3-l unit. Properly equipped with trailering features, the towing capacity could go up to 8,500 lbs.
Higher trim levels are replacing a 5.3 engine with a 6.2 unit. The larger displacement boosts outputs to 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. In this case, the fuel economy takes another blow and drops to 17 mpg combined (2WD). It could be even worse if there is no a 10-speed automatic gearbox. However, you will find this engine available only for the RST or Premier Plus edition.
2021 Chevy Suburban Diesel and Turbo Engine
The upcoming SUV could get refreshments under the bonnet for the new generation. The 2021 Chevy Suburban diesel is possible. The engine is already available for the half-ton truck. Its adaptation for the SUV class would mean a lot since the GM has three other models waiting for the decision. A 3.0-liter Duramax V6 turbodiesel is capable to produce 280 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It would be the perfect combination with the new independent rear suspension spied on the Suburban and Tahoe.
The other possibility is a twin-turbo V8 unit. General Motors is using this one on the performance-oriented Cadillac CT6. With 500 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque, this motor might be a great replacement for one of the V8 units. In case that engineers want to spice things up, a 4.2-liter twin-turbo powerplant can deliver up to 550 hp and 640 pound-feet.

2021 Chevy Suburban Redesign and Interior
Changes on the new 2021 Chevy Suburban are more than the facelift. A total overhaul will get the SUV into a new generation. The company is trying to hide things from enthusiasts, but it is hard to miss a street monster. With a 130-inch wheelbase and 225 inches long body, the vehicle can accommodate eight persons and still keep space for enough cargo. Precise volumes will be available after the release date.
Chevrolet is updating the infotainment system. Be sure that the latest features are part of the new generation, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The center of the command room is an eight-inch screen. Navigation is optional. Also, buyers can add a premium audio system.
2021 Chevy Suburban High Country
Fans of the full-size SUV will wait for the next-gen model instead of purchasing the outgoing version. General Motors is providing another reason for that – the 2021 Chevy Suburban High Country trim. The new Tahoe was spied, showing the new grille. Fans immediately found similarities with the High Country trim of the Silverado 1500. The top of the class model is available only for a truck at the moment, but the grille shows that the suite is being tested on big SUVs. Unique moonroof and trailering package are part of the overall offer. There are also things that are optional with other models.
The SUV Will be Ready For 2020 NAIAS
We are going back to the beginning of our article. The release date of the 2021 Chevy Suburban is still unknown. Experts missed it last time, thinking the GM will launch its SUVs as 2020 YM. Well, prototypes are still on streets and vehicles for the next season are unchanged.
The premiere of the Suburban and Tahoe could happen in Detroit. The auto show is getting a new format and the date is now perfect for tests on fields. That is exactly what the new full-size model needs.
