2021 Chevy Equinox Changes and Hybrid Model

Spy photographers provided a clue about the 2021 Chevy Equinox. First images are showing the test mule in Death Valley, California. Earlier we saw a vehicle similar to the Equinox, but everyone was skeptic about it. General Motors is currently focused on the development of the full-size Tahoe and Suburban, which will also debut in 2021.

Well, the level of changes won’t be the same for vehicles in different segments. While the big rigs are entering the new generation, the 2021 Chevy Equinox is suffering a facelift. Still, changes are big enough the company needs to hide them from enthusiasts. Spy photos are not unveiling details, but these are showing the truth – Equinox crossover will be refreshed.

Interior of the vehicle will keep the same volumes. Cargo space is not too generous, but we cannot expect that from the compact crossover. On the other hand, fuel economy is the reason why you should pick a smaller model. A presence of the diesel unit gives you another option for the build. The versatile crossover could also get a hybrid drivetrain by 2021 season.

2021 Chevy Equinox Drivetrains

The existing lineup of drivetrains is going to be unchanged. The 2021 Chevy Equinox will use a pair of petrol engines, plus the optional turbodiesel. The base versions will be equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo-four that comes out with 170 hp and 205 lb-ft of torque. The engine is quite economical and returns 28 mpg combined. The optional all-wheel drive consumes slightly more gasoline.

The other option is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit delivers more of everything. With 250 hp and 260 pound-feet, it accelerates faster and reaches higher max speeds. On the other hand, the cost is paid with higher fuel consumption. This version returns 25 mpg, either with an FWD or an AWD. A nine-speed automatic gearbox replaces the six-pace transmission for a 2.0 version.

Diesel

Another possibility is to purchase Equinox with a diesel engine. We believe this drivetrain will be still a part of the lineup in 2021. We can hear rumors about the greener hybrid model, but the company is not giving up on its diesel unit. It achieves good sales and the best towing capacities of all available engines for the compact crossover. A 1.6-liter turbodiesel powertrain produces 140 hp and 250 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy is another reason why buyers are choosing this model. Diesel returns 40 mpg on the highway when connected to the front-wheel drive.

2021 Chevy Equinox Hybrid

Chevrolet Equinox is versatile thanks to its diesel engine, but the future of the automotive industry is green. General Motors will have to work on other sources of power to stay competitive. The new Ford Escape will introduce a hybrid drivetrain, so we expect the same move by the 2021 Chevy Equinox. The company is not making it official yet, but the development is confirmed by various sources. However, details are not available yet.

Trim Levels and Options

The base trim level for the 2021 Chevy Equinox is L, with a 1.5-liter engine and respectable safety options. For example, you will get automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, and lane departure warning. The Chevrolet Infotainment 3 uses a 7-inch touchscreen display and a rear-vision camera. The cabin is pretty quiet thanks to the noise cancellation. LED DRLs and halo lamps are exterior highlights together with 17-inch wheels.

The upper trim level is LS. You are still not able to upgrade the drivetrain, but there are more options in other segments. For $3,000 you are getting Protection package with all-weather mats and splash guards. The LT brings more serious upgrades, including optional drivetrains. Optionally, you can upgrade the Equinox LT with Midnight Package and Black Edition. Top of the line model is Premier. This one comes with leather upholstery, 18-inch wheels, wireless charging, and 8-inch infotainment screen.
