The future of the smallest crossover SUV in the lineup heavily depends on the new Trailblazer. Some experts say the upcoming model will replace the 2020 Chevy Trax when the vehicle is ready to enter the next generation. That is probably going to happen in 2021. On the other hand, there are speculations that Chevrolet Trailblazer is expanding the lineup by positioning itself between Trax and Equinox. It has sense since the entire segment is growing, so we have more sub-classes.
The new 2020 Chevy Trax is being tested. We don’t know too many details since it’s been only a couple of weeks since the new model was spied. Heavy camo is hiding most of the things we want to know. But, the number of covers are intriguing. Does GM is preparing a surprise and the second generation of the subcompact crossover? We will know that when the release date of 2020 Chevy Trax approaches. Until then, we can only speculate. Some of the rumors are pointing to the engine room. The new vehicle could get a hybrid engine and better fuel economy, which lacks some numbers compared to its rivals.
2020 Chevy Trax Specs
The powertrain of the 2020 Chevy Trax remains a 1.4-liter turbo-four unit. It is producing 140 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque, which is a fine output for this type of vehicle. Front-wheel drive is standard and it returns up to 33 miles per gallon on the highway. With an all-wheel drive, the output drops to 30 mpg on the open road and 27 mpg combined. A six-speed automatic transmission works smoothly. Trax is not the vehicle that will haul a lot with towing capacity at 1,300 pounds.
This model is available in other markets outside the US. Trax is using three more drivetrains, with one diesel unit in the lineup. It is a 1.7-liter four-cylinder unit with 130 hp and 220 pound-feet of twisting power. Besides the 1.4-l petrol unit, there are 1.6 and 1.8 drivetrains. These two can make either 115 or 140 hp and 115 and 130 lb-ft.
Cargo Space
The subcompact crossover is 168 inches long and it lays on a 100-inch wheelbase. The interior space offers 19 cubic feet behind the second row. This is a five-seat crossover that won’t offer too much comfort to persons with above-average height. If you fold the second row, then 2020 Chevy Trax gains 30 cubic feet more.
2020 Chevy Trax Accessories and Trim Levels
The 2020 Chevy Trax is available with three trim levels. The entry-level model is LS, mid-range offer LT, and Premier brings the most features. Standard safety package includes 10 airbags and electronic stability control. There is a rear vision camera to help with parking. Power windows are part of the LS model. Interior is wrapped in cloth and infotainment system comes with an 8-inch touchscreen display and voice commands, Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. 16-inch wheels are for the LS model, while LT is upgrading them to 17-inches.
Halogen headlights and LED DRLs are other exterior changes we can notice up front. Some other details are eye-catching as well, like chrome moldings and silver skid-plate accents. Inside, you will find deluxe cloth. Cruise control, a power outlet, and remote start are other things you can get with LT package.
Top of the class 2020 Chevy Trax Premier is using fog lamps and 18-inch wheels. Leatherette seats with power adjusting mode for a front row are notable upgrades. Also, front buckets are getting heating, and the steering wheel is wrapped in leather. The sound system is upgraded to Bose premium audio. Power sunroof and lane departure warning are final notable accessories we will find in the Chevrolet Trax.
Competition
The compact segment in the SUV category is the best-selling tier. If you thought that buyers are opting for the subcompact segment rather than the mid-size, you are wrong. That is why companies are investing more in a larger sibling. Still, most carmakers are offering subcompact vehicles which are the most suitable for young drivers. Like for all other classes, Chevrolet is battling with Ford. In this case, we will see the competition between the 2020 Chevy Trax and Ford EcoSport. Outside the US, the rival is the all-new Ford Puma. Toyota CH-R, Honda HR-V, and Nissan Kicks are other notable rivals. The new Trailblazer will probably land between Trax and compact Equinox, where is already Nissan Rogue Sport.
2020 Chevy Trax Prices
The base version of the Trax is available for only $22,300. LT model adds $2,000 and the Premier costs $29,000. This is a serious price and for that money some mid-size models with three rows of seats are available. We are still waiting for updates on the hybrid drivetrain which could improve the fuel economy and outputs of the subcompact vehicle.
