However, the things in this category are changing very fast and Chevrolet must update one of its most successful products. The 2020 Chevy Equinox will bring few changes since the design is still new. But, the major revisit will happen under the hood. The new SUV is getting a hybrid engine.
That is not all about this crossover SUV. Colors palette is getting new paints. We still don’t know precisely which. Furthermore, the spy photos are not unveiling too much. Heavy camouflage is hiding the body and these minor updates the revisit for next season is bringing. Interior will update the infotainment system. Of course, the focus is on the connectivity again. A 1.5-liter engine remains the main choice and the 2020 Chevy Equinox is arriving with the same trim level squad as before.
2020 Chevy Equinox Specs
Towing capacity of 1,500 pounds is weak even for a compact crossover. Many rivals are offering more serious hauling capability. However, buyers who need more towing opt for a larger SUV. So, the base setup of the 2020 Chevy Equinox will continue to use a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine which is delivering 170 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque. If the towing capacity is not an advantage, the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox will make it up to its owners with superb fuel economy. Front-wheel drive is standard setup and it returns 29 mpg combined. If you opt for an AWD, this number is going down by 1 mpg. A six-speed automatic transmission is a power router in this configuration.
If you are looking for quicker acceleration, then a 2.0-liter is another choice. Besides this displacement is bigger, it also features turbochargers. With this setup, the new Equinox can count on 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This is not the only change since the motor is sending power through a nine-speed transmission, instead of a six-pace gearbox. Again, a front-wheel drive is standard, whilst the AWD remains optional. If you think this extra power will cost you a lot of fuel, it is not true. For 80 hp more you will spend only 2 mpg more on average. Also, a 2.0-l displacement can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
Diesel
Under the hood of the 2020 Chevy Equinox, we will also find a diesel unit. Turbo engine is capable to return 40 mpg on highways and 36 mpg combined. Also, AWD is at a high level, with 35 mpg average. The output of a diesel engine is 140 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. A 1.6-liter turbodiesel is not going to improve the towing capacity of the base unit. It sits at 1,500 pounds.
2020 Chevy Equinox Hybrid
The 2020 Chevy Equinox is a compact crossover SUV. The situation is changing fast in this segment, especially under the hood. General Motors will go green and respond to challenges from its rivals. More and more models are bringing hybrid models to the market. Some of the main rivals are Wrangler with the mild-hybrid eTorque system and Nissan Rogue. Toyota is launching RAV4 and Honda its CR-V with electric support for the petrol drivetrains.
Advantages of this system are better fuel economy and fewer emissions. However, development is expensive. Furthermore, we still don’t know what kind of a drivetrain will serve as the base for a hybrid setup. A 2.0-liter seems to be a better choice than the 1.5-l displacement.

Well, Chevrolet will work on the next generation of multimedia. Even if it does not appear for the 2020 Equinox, Chevrolet will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Navigation remains optional, while upper trim levels also bring additional features, such as premium audio or advanced voice commands.
2020 Chevrolet Equinox Release Date
The new 2020 Chevy Equinox will be available late this year. Small updates don’t require a big promotion, so the company is not going to seek for a large car show to unveil it. Instead, GM is focusing on other models. Hybrid will arrive in 2020. Its price is still speculation, but we believe it is not going to cost under $30,000. The entry-level offer will be around $25,000 and the most expensive trim level is Premier. Without upgrades, it costs $33,000. If you decide to upgrade any of the trim levels with turbo-four petrol or diesel engine, prepare another $2,500.
