The 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV will be an extended version of the upcoming luxury SUV. Regular and extended version are sharing the same drivetrain and platform, and the major update will be the new IRS system. GM and Cadillac will finally a response to Ford’s suspension for their premium Lincoln Navigator SUV.
While the XT lineup grows, the 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV has nothing to worry about it. The new models are XT6 and XT4. Cadillac is not building a full-size model with such a badge. That space remains Escalade’s. Even in toughest times for the company, this nameplate survived. So, there is no way that some other SUV can take its place.
The ESV adds more space compared to the standard Escalade. It is a longer model with an extended wheelbase. Besides that, the SUV is packed with a lot of special features and options which makes it one of the most expensive vehicles. The good thing is that there are no many competitors. Lincoln Navigator has the L version. Lexus has a two and three-row LX, without extended version. Other companies are not in the full-size premium SUV market.
2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV Specs
A 6.2-liter V8 engine is producing power for the 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV. This unit is capable to deliver 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission sends energy to either two- or four-wheel drive system. The ESV version consumes the same amount of fuel as the standard SUV. With 2WD drivers can get 14/23 mpg and with AWD 14/21 miles per gallon.
Spy Photos and New Independent Rear Suspension
The 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV will finally start to use an IRS. Well, to change the riding method, engineers must change the complete drivetrain configuration. So, the next Escalade and ESV model will be built on the T1XX platform. It replaces the current K2XX.
The IRS will cause further changes outside and inside the SUV. Spy photos are already there, but heavy panels are covering prototypes. Testing mules will lose camouflage over time, and we will see what kind of front and rear fascia changes the next edition is bringing.
Escala Concept and Dimensions
All the latest Cadillac vehicles are adopting design language from the Escala concept. Well, we can see only a sport car showing off its look. However, the big SUV will take some solutions. This also means a lot of premium upgrades for the full-size model’s interior. A rear-seat infotainment system is optional, and it comes with dual screens in front seats’ headrests.
Besides that, the new 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV will get an autonomous drive. A self-drive feature is a part of Escala concept, and all future vehicles will adopt it. Nevertheless, the system will evolve by the time the new Escalade shows up, so we can’t talk about the level of autonomous drive it is going to offer. Auto parking and lane keeping assist are probable, as well as the automatic braking and throttle.
The 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV will keep current dimensions. The SUV is 224 inches long (wheelbase 130 in). That is 22 inches longer than the standard Escalade, while the wheelbase gains 14 inches. Height and width are identical for both versions – 80 and 74 in.
2020 Cadillac Escalade Price, Release Date
The new 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV will be available by the end of the year. However, sales will start early in 2020 or late in 2019 (base packages). Diesel and hybrid engines are a possibility, but there are no details coming from trusted sources. The first one is more likely to happen since Chevy Silverado 1500 is getting a diesel unit. The same 3.0-l turbo mill could supply Escalade with power. But, this version is not going to be available so soon.
The price of the new 2020 Cadillac Escalade ESV will start at $83,000. Standard SUV costs $80,000. Upper trim levels go above $100k.
