The new X3 went through a facelift before it showed up as the next-gen model in 2018. The next edition in 2020 will bring the first updates for the crossover SUV. Minor, but still enough not to skip a year. Well, we expect more from the 2020 BMW X3 in the engine area. First of all, it will bring the new M package. The vehicle was spied together with its close sibling X4M. Besides that, the compact SUV is ready to get an electric version iX3.
The competition will monitor things closely. Besides the electric SUV, which we can watch as a separate model, the 2020 BMW X3 will also offer a hybrid version. We still don’t know which markets will have this unit. With M40i engine and hybrid unit, the compact crossover SUV will be a versatile model out in 2020.
The German company will keep the premium features at a high level, as always. After a year, they will update the infotainment system. Also, some equipment and features could be added. Safety is a priority, so expect the 2020 BMW X3 to be safer than ever. Finally, the M model is going to bring top-notch features and options that will make a difference even in the premium class.
2020 BMW X3 Specs
The base SUV is coming with the sDrive30i engine. That is a 2.0-liter displacement with turbochargers. A four-cylinder engine is producing 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It is pretty fuel-friendly with a gas mileage up to 30 mpg (RWD, highway). Well, in urban conditions, the consumption raises to 23 mpg. Rear wheel drive can be replaced with an all-wheel drive. In this case, the gas mileage drops by 1 point.
The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A start/stop features will improve the fuel economy. Still, it can be annoying, so you can switch it off by the press of a button.
2020 BMW X3 M40i Engine
The other possibility for the 2020 BMW X3 is an M40i unit or a 3.0-liter turbo-six engine. This one is creating 355 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. The 2020 BMW X3M is using only an all-wheel drive and the fuel economy of this version is 20/27 mpg for city/highway drive. Transmission for the 2020 BMW X3 M40i is the same 8-speed gearbox as for the other drivetrain.
2020 BMW X3 Hybrid and iX3 Fully-Electric SUV
The 2020 BMW iX3 is coming next year. The all-electric SUV is based on the X3 model. However, two electric batteries will be positioned at the front and back of the vehicle. That will make designers change iX3. Still, the batteries will provide a smooth ride. The company announced some specs of the new EV. It will sprint to 60 mph in six seconds, while the range of the 2020 BMW iX3 will be at least 250 miles. Standard and fast charging will be available.
Experts still think that 2020 BMW X3 Hybrid is a likely possibility for the next season. After the VW emissions scandal, German carmakers are under special attention. So, the Bavarian giant could go greener to show its environmental-friendly nature. On the other hand, this project needs a lot of investments and time, so we doubt the 2020 BMW X3 Hybrid could hit the market so soon. But, we wouldn’t write off the chances for the debut.
2020 BMW X3 M Spied With its X4 Stablemate
BMW is testing prototypes of the 2020 BMW X3 M and X4 M together. Well, this is the same crossover SUV, just different chassis are making it separate models. The M model will use a 3.0-liter turbo-six engine. This time, it gets a twin-turbo treatment and the total output of the drivetrain system is 475 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque. It takes only 4 seconds for 0-60 mph sprint.
But, that is just a start of numerous changes for this suite. More aggressive and bolder, the X3M is ready to wipe up the competition with its entire offer. Black grille, a new set of wheels, quad exhaust tips, and larger air vents are exterior signs of 2020 BMW X3M SUV. Inside the cockpit, there is a special M steering wheel and shift knob, Vernasca leather upholstery, with the option to upgrade it to Merino leather, and carbon fiber M trim. Well, the price of this model will tell you all – $65,000.

Also, there are Porsche Macan and Macan Turbo. Jaguar F-Pace is a growing competition in other markets. Its SVR version produces 550 hp and 505 lb-ft of torque, which is a class-leading output.
