The new year is here. As soon as we steppe into 2019 we will try to share the information about updates for the next season. According to what we know so far, 2020 is going to be very interesting, especially in the SUV segment.

Of course, there will be many debuts and premieres no one has a clue about it. But, some early announcements are already available. So, stay tuned, here are 2020 SUVs worth waiting for.

2020 Ford Bronco

It is an SUV of a year. At least it is the most expected model. A lot of attention draws the comeback of the 2020 Ford Bronco. The company announces it a couple of years ago, and when fans realized the development will definitely bring the production model in 2020, they went crazy about it. On the other hand, Ford is giving only pieces of info about the new Bronco.

We know there will be versions with two- and four-door configurations. Also, the company will make a Baby Bronco – an off-road specialist. The shape is totally unknown since the carmaker has shown us only wrapped vehicle on teaser images. Diesel, hybrid, petrol engines – all of these are possibilities. There are many other speculations and the entire industry can’t wait to see the premiere of the 2020 Ford Bronco.

However, expect a new grille and revisited interior. Changes will include new equipment, more aggressive appearance, and more efficient hybrid system.

The new 2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport will add features to make a drive more fun. Special suspension and other parts of the drivetrain system will make it one of the best SUVs in the class when we talk about handling and maneuvering.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep is going strong into the new season in every segment. After they announced the return of a pickup truck, the company will continue to pay more attention to its SUV squad. And the best-selling model is Grand Cherokee. This SUV will take some significant updates, according to spy photos.

Still, the most excitement causes the SRT version. The return of the Trackhawk edition means the Hellcat engine will make the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee the most powerful SUV in the market with 707 horsepower. Interior is also under revisit. 2020 Toyota 4Runner

The off-road SUV could get a new TRD Pro package. As the only SUV with such features, fans can’t wait to see the unstoppable 2020 Toyota 4Runner again. Well, if rumors about that and a diesel engine come true, then this model is going to leave the competition in the dust.

But, these are still only speculations. Spy shots of the 2020 Toyota 4Runner are not confirming these theories. Since we entered 2019 there will be more details available as we are getting closer to the release date of the new 2020 4Runner. The SUV could be available by the end of this year.

2020 Chevy Tahoe

The 2020 Chevy Tahoe and its sibling Chevrolet Suburban are getting a new platform. Now, these big rigs are going to use an independent rear suspension. This means the new Tahoe is going to have a ride of a truck. However, the platform boosts durability and off-road experience.

The bad thing about the IRS is that fans of the 2020 Chevy Tahoe will have to pay more for its favorite SUV. First of all, the development and parts are more expensive. Also, the maintenance cost is not as cheap as for other setups. And finally, if you are going to be more on the road with your SUV, then check out other models. The new independent rear suspension configuration is not the greatest choice for highway runs.

2020 Subaru Outback

The new generation 2020 Subaru Outback is going to be one of the stars in the upcoming season. The vehicle is already pretty attractive thanks to its Boxer engine, but now it will take the game to another level. No one looks at Subaru with disrespect. And Outback SUV is one of the reasons why Japanese carmaker became very popular.

The versatility of the 2020 Subaru Outback is not in doubt. Although the vehicle is heading into a new generation, it will keep its main advantages. The SUV was one of the best performers on and off the road combined. While most other models are making special trim levels with unique configurations, Outback is doing well on various terrains, no matter which setup you choose.

2020 Toyota Highlander

The new concept will make the 2020 Toyota Highlander more efficient. Not only its hybrid but also a gasoline version. Highlander is one of the class-leading models and the only mid-size three-row hybrid. But, other companies are developing their SUVs with such drivetrain, and Toyota also needs to upgrade its model.

Under the hood of the 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is still a 3.5-liter V6 petrol unit as the base. Petrol version is capable to deliver 295 hp, while the hybrid adds 11 more ponies. Also, it will boost the fuel economy to 32/30 mpg for city/highway drive. These are numbers gasoline SUVs in the mid-size segment can dream of.

2020 Audi Q9

The 2020 Audi Q9 will take the spot as the new largest SUV in the family. Not too long time ago, the company brought the Q8 there, but this model is not going to be the biggest model for too long. Well, the German carmaker will try to compete with other premium brands and their models, such as Acura RDX, Infiniti QX80. And Lexus LX 570.

Under the hood of the 2020 Audi Q9 will be the same engines as for Q8. However, the SUV is going to be larger and more muscular than its predecessor. The only official info is that the vehicle is coming and Audi said there are many ideas for the SUV. Besides this, the German company hasn’t shown any concept preview or what exactly we can see on roads in 2020.

2020 Cadillac Escalade

The full-size premium market is becoming more popular. Companies are paying more attention to its models to be competitive in the market. The new 2020 Cadillac Escalade will use some design solutions from the latest Escala concept. It will make the premium SUV more aggressive. Also, GM plans to upgrade its drivetrains with diesel or even hybrid setup.

But, as for the Chevy Tahoe/Suburban, the major change is the independent rear suspension. All pros and cons are the same as these we mentioned already talking about the 2020 Chevy Tahoe. Also, the company will probably add a twin-turbo configuration of the existing V8 engine. With such powertrain, the SUV is going to be able to deliver over 500 horsepower.

2020 Ford Excursion

The return of the 2020 Ford Excursion is still questionable. If that happens, the SUV will become the largest vehicle in the class, again. We already used to see the truck-based models, but none is using the platform from the heavy-duty class. That will make the 2020 Excursion so special.

The base for the SUV is going to be the F-250 Super Duty pickup truck. Could this mean we will see the 2020 Ford Excursion using a turbodiesel engine? Hardly. But, the new 7.0-liter V8 petrol unit is more likely to happen. Ford is developing a new powertrain and the large SUV will be one of the first models to get it.

2020 Dodge Durango

During this year we will see the first previews of 2020 Dodge Durango. Big changes are on the way for this model. It is changing platforms and the next generation will use body-on-frame architecture. Advantages of this setup are longer lifespan and better off-road capabilities. On the other hand, Durango will lose some handling and efficiency, while the BoF platform also adds some value to the overall price.

Whatsoever, the new series will be in production for 2021 season, and the 2020 Dodge Durango could be a preview of that model. Minor changes for the last run on the current are not noteworthy. However, Durango will stay one of the most versatile SUVs in the market, with a wide offer of engines and other options.

Spy photos of the next model are showing the possibility, and with the 2019 season model already out, the Japanese company is not going to skip the next one to launch PHEV version of its mid-size SUV. The 2020 Honda Pilot is going to be one of the best choices in its class. With the price just above $32,000, it starts at a pretty affordable level. For extra cash, buyers can get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. What’s more, the Pilot Touring is there with seven seats and price that exceeds $44,000. The most equipped version is going to be the 2020 Pilot Elite. The price of this vehicle will be over $50,000.

2020 Lincoln Navigator

The 2020 Lincoln Navigator is a flagship model. Ford’s premium SUV is not getting any major change in visual terms. But, the upcoming model could get a hybrid drivetrain. Lincoln already added such configuration to the new Aviator SUV. Now, it is time for a full-size vehicle to become a hybrid.

Ford is investing big money in this project. Not only 2020 Lincoln Navigator, but also Expedition SUV and F-150 truck are going to use the same drivetrain. Furthermore, other smaller vehicles are also going to be electrified.

What’s more, the 2020 Lincoln Navigator is about to introduce new Black Label themes. At the moment, the SUV offers three configurations for this special version. The new themes will change the interior layout by using premium materials and hi-tech features.

2020 Nissan Pathfinder

Nissan Rogue is the best-selling compact crossover SUV in the USA. In other classes, the Japanese carmaker is delivering the important vehicle, but none of them is at the top of the charts. The 2020 Nissan Pathfinder, after the redesign, should attract more buyers. Well, we could see the new generation of the SUV, since the current one dates from 2013.

The new Nissan Pathfinder 2020 will present more changes than we saw the last time designers revisited it in 2017. The biggest news for the SUV could be a hybrid drivetrain. Mid-size models with three rows are becoming more efficient, and there are already few vehicles out there in the market with hybrid powertrains. The Pathfinder could be the next one.

2020 Acura RDX

After success of the MDX compact crossover, Acura launched the new generation of the RDX luxury SUV for 2019. So, what could change in a year after the debut? Well, the upcoming model is getting new engines for the more efficient ride, or more aggressive approach.

A hybrid unit will boost the fuel economy. Currently, the SUV is using a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that returns 22/28 mpg. With a hybrid setup, these numbers would go up to 30 mpg combined. On the other hand, we will definitely see the new 2020 Acura RDX with Type S badge. This means the SUV is getting a V6 turbo engine that will produce much more than 270 hp the current setup can do.

2020 Lexus LX 570

The full-size premium SUV will share the destiny with its closest stablemate, Toyota Land Cruiser. Well, it is time for a redesign, since the current design is from 2015 when the last facelift took place. Whatsoever, the 2020 Lexus LX 570 is bringing more of everything inside the cabin.

What is more important, the SUV is another full-size model that could get a hybrid drivetrain. Since the mid-size class is electrified, all companies are looking forward to doing the same with their largest SUVs. Of course, as a leader in the segment, Toyota will do everything to be among the first companies to do so with its premium model 2020 Lexus LX 570.

2020 GMC Yukon / Yukon XL

Like its Chevy twins, the 2020 GMC Yukon will take advantage of the independent rear suspension. We already explained the advantages and cons of this configuration. What’s more, the GMC twin also delivers the version with an extended wheelbase. That is Yukon XL. However, there won’t be too many other differences between standard and long SUVs.

We expect to see the redesign since the last couple of years Yukon received only minor cosmetic changes. Now, it is time for the complete overhaul. Also, the 2020 GMC Yukon Denali update will come with more hi-tech updates and premium materials inside the cabin. Better layout, more space, and better equipment are highlights of Denali trim, both for standard 2020 Yukon and Yukon XL.

2020 Infiniti QX80

The new 2020 Infiniti QX80 will use much more features from the most recent concept for Nissan’s premium branch. It is a Monograph platform, that introduces cool and modern updates. The front fascia is getting double-arch grille and sharper headlights that are positioned higher than usual. Also, most details are not going to be available before the release date, so we are waiting for its eagerly.

The full-size luxury SUV keeps a 5.6-liter V8 as the only drivetrain. This unit is capable to deliver 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is not a strength, with the combined return of only 17 mpg. With AWD, the gas mileage drops to 16 mpg. On the other hand, the 2020 Infiniti QX80 is going to be one of the best models if you need to tow a lot. The premium vehicle is able to tow over 8,500 pounds.

2020 Subaru Ascent

Subaru is growing. The latest addition, a three-row SUV shows the Japanese company is a serious player in the market. The new model, Subaru Ascent, will be available for 2019, but in 2020 we expect from it to shine. The first appearance will cause a lot of comments, and by the time the 2020 Subaru Ascent appears, all lacks will be unveiled and fixed. That is why expect so much from this model.

Also, the mid-size SUV could get the new engines. A turbo-four Boxer unit can deliver 2-260 hp. But, with V6 the 2020 Subaru Ascent would get another option. Buyers love to have a wide offer and that will definitely help the new model to achieve better sales. However, at this moment, we know only about a 2.4-liter gasoline unit.

2020 Toyota Sequoia

Toyota still manages to deliver best-selling SUV, although some of their models are quite old. The company needs to update their full-size segment. We can hear the Land Cruiser is entering the new generation. The same could happen to the 2020 Toyota Sequoia. Among many changes, we could see this full-size SUV as the next one to get the TRD Pro trim level, after 4Runner as the only model in the segment.

The 2020 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro means much better off-road capability. However, that is the high-end model that is going to cost over $65,000. The base Sequoia will stay around $50k. Spy photos of the SUV are not unveiling too much. Heavy camouflage is hiding most of the body. The good thing is to know that there is something to hide on the new 2020 Toyota Sequoia.

2020 Ford Expedition

Ford Expedition is always there to set new challenges to its rivals. Its IRS made GM’s models go the same way. The SUV will share the same hybrid engine with Lincoln Navigator. When it is about to happen, we will know when the F-150 truck appears. These models are sharing the same platform. So, a lot of similarities between them will be shared.

One of them is the new 2020 Ford Expedition Diesel. The F-150 truck is getting it for the 2019 year model. The full-size SUV a season later. It is a 3.0-liter Powerstroke unit capable to create 240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. This turbodiesel engine will make the Ford Expedition 2020 the SUV with the class-leading towing capacity. Early predictions say the unit will be able to tow over 10,000 pounds.

2020 Nissan Armada

The second generation of the Armada full-size SUV’s performance can’t make people in Nissan happy. Poor sales are showing some indications of growing. The new series of the vehicle modernized the appearance. Also, designers in Japanese company worked on comfort and infotainment. The 2020 Nissan Armada will bring the mid-cycle update and we are expecting a lot of it.

Well, it is hard to compete in the class where are no so many buyers as in others. But, the 2020 Nissan Armada will be one of the cheapest full-size SUV. Its price will be just shy of $50,000. On the other hand, buyers will be able to upgrade it with a diesel engine. It could be a unit the Nissan Titan XD is using. A 5.0-liter turbodiesel engine is capable to produce 310 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque.

2020 Lexus GX 460

It is time for a redesign or a new generation. Lexus GX mid-size SUV is not performing as its siblings. And it has potential. After the company revisited all their SUVs and crossovers, we believe the 2020 Lexus GX 460 is bringing the most for the upcoming season.

First of all, it is the next model to get a hybrid engine. A smaller RX crossover already has one in its lineup. Furthermore, the GX looks old compared to RX and LX. So, the redesign and a facelift are the musts. Finally, the interior. Yes, there were few updates in the last ten years since the second generation is active. But, the 2020 Lexus GX 460 needs the complete overhaul of the cabin and the new layout.

2020 Hyundai Palisade

The latest addition to the Hyundai SUV lineup is debuting in summer 2019 as the 2020 year model. A three-row 2020 Hyundai Palisade will sit above the Santa Fe as the new largest model.

An eight-seater SUV gets power from a 3.8-liter V6 unit with direct injection. This engine is capable to deliver 290 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. When compared with the competition, such as Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder, and Ford Explorer, the Palisade SUV is slightly better in power and torque.
